Solar-powered cameras for greater security

DB Kommunikationstechnik has developed the first solar-powered mobile CCTV unit. Since it has an autonomous power supply via a solar energy system, it can also be used in locations where providing power is difficult. The system is therefore ideal for preventing vandalism and other damage to our trains when they are parked in sidings. It has up to four cameras, which are fixed to a 7-meter-high swiveling mast.

The first autonomous mobile base stations have already been set up in Hamm (Westphalia), Leipzig (Engelsdorf), Karsdorf and Mukran (on the island of Rügen). They are used to monitor rail facilities that would otherwise be hidden from view. The CCTV images are then fed to our office in Chemnitz. Bad news for graffiti artists: more locations are being planned.
