Our operations facilities have to run around the clock. Even when there is a power failure. Because our signaling systems, stations and radio communication bases have to be in service at all times. Therefore, in the event of a power failure, standby power systems take over.
Diesel-powered generators used to fulfill this function, but today we are increasingly using fuel cells. These environmentally friendly cells use hydrogen and oxygen to generate power without producing CO2 as a waste material. For example, we utilized a fuel cell backup power supply system for several years at Maulbronn West station in Baden-Württemberg, thereby ensuring the environmentally friendly and safe operation of the signaling facility.
