Deutsche Bahn offers its customers numerous solutions for climate-friendly travel, including options for transporting bicycles. The eco-friendly combination of bike and train is very popular. To meet growing demand, Deutsche Bahn is expanding its bicycle transport services. For example, the ICE 3neo offers eight bike spaces per train. Traveling with a bike is even more convenient on the ICE L, a newly designed train that provides step-free access for passengers.
Passengers who want to bring their bike can book the appropriate bicycle ticket with a reserved bike space for long-distance travel on bahn.de or in the DB Navigator — just like the corresponding passenger ticket. This also allows short-notice purchases before the journey.
Easy Transfer – with the Folding Bike Subscription
In cooperation with London-based folding bike specialist Brompton, Deutsche Bahn offers a subscription model. Users can rent a high-quality folding bike and take it as hand luggage on buses and trains free of charge. Folded, the bikes count as luggage, so commuters can bring them without needing bike tickets or worrying about restricted travel times. The folding bikes pack into a portable, space-saving package, making them particularly practical for the trip to and from the station — no parking search required.
Ride there – carry it back
DB Regio Bus also provides practical solutions for passengers with bicycles on local transport: thanks to bike trailers and racks on buses, additional storage space is created. This allows travelers to take their bikes along even when passenger numbers are high.
DB Regio operates “bike buses” with trailers on selected routes from south to north — for example, in the Eifel National Park in North Rhine-Westphalia and in the Southern Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg. Extra-large trailers allow bicycles to be transported, making these routes ideal for cycling trips. In the Frankenwald region of Upper Bavaria, buses on the Hochfrankenwald line are also equipped with bike trailers. This way, DB customers can cover part of their journey by bike and travel the rest comfortably by bus.
