Before work on a construction site can begin, Deutsche Bahn checks whether all relevant environmental regulations and laws have been observed. This task is carried out by environmental construction supervisors. During construction, they communicate with the building companies and conservation authorities and constantly monitor whether all environmental regulations are being complied with. If this is not the case, or if unexpected events occur, they devise professional solutions.

To perform their duties, these experts receive special training developed jointly by DB and DB Training. This enables the environmental supervisors to ensure, for example, that habitats for protected plant and animal species remain largely unaffected, while at the same time meeting the legal planning requirements of the Federal Railway Authority.
