Deutsche Bahn continuously expands its catering offerings for customers and employees while making them more sustainable.

Since March 2022, over 50% of the food offered in our on-board bistros and restaurants has been vegetarian or plant-based. Sustainability in the menu is supported by products such as meat alternatives, vegetarian snacks, and organic oat-based porridges. These complement the existing offerings. Since early 2022, Oatly oat drink has been offered in on-board catering and selected DB Lounges as an alternative to cow’s milk. Additionally, DB uses organic quality whenever possible for seasonal specials.

    Enjoyment with a clear conscience

Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are also sourced from fair-trade products. Hot beverages in on-board catering have carried the Fairtrade label since 2017, ensuring farmers receive stable incomes and premiums for community project. The rules also prohibit the use of highly toxic pesticides and genetically modified seeds.

    Sustainably energized throughout the day

DB also offers employees a varied and sustainable menu in company cafetarias. From affordable daily specials to premium meals, there are always vegetarian and seasonal options, such as asparagus, pumpkin, or chanterelle mushrooms. DB prioritizes resource conservation in procurement. Meals prepared with sustainably sourced ingredients are clearly labeled.
