Wherever Deutsche Bahn has to intervene in the environment due to construction projects, it ensures ecological compensation. For example, rare Heck cattle and wild horses can be seen grazing on a former military site. The animals are used as landscape conservationists on the site and ensure sustainable grazing of the green areas.

The "National Natural Heritage Aschaffenburg" adventure trail runs for around three kilometers around the animals' natural pasture. Over time, numerous other rare animal and plant species have also settled here.

Information boards along the nature trail describe the flora and fauna and provide information about the development from a military area to a "National Natural Heritage Site". Equipped with a smartphone, visitors can listen to the voices of the birds living here via QR codes. In addition to guided insect tours, there are also hands-on activities on biotope design, inviting young visitors in particular to get to know the area in a playful way.

The adventure trail was developed by DB together with the Institute of Federal Real Estate, the government of Lower Franconia and the city of Aschaffenburg as part of the expansion of the Hanau-Nantenbach line and will be continued as a "National Natural Heritage Site".
