Deutsche Bahn is committed to nature and species protection in many ways. One example is the provision of nesting aids – for falcons, for instance. Falcons prefer to breed at great heights. A few years ago, a peregrine falcon pair attempted to nest on a pier of a valley bridge along the Hannover–Würzburg line – unfortunately without success. Therefore, Deutsche Bahn, together with the Bavarian Bird Protection Association, installed nesting aids. Peregrine falcons have now settled there. Additional nesting aids for falcons have been installed at the Ilmtal Bridge and along railway lines in Bavaria and Hesse.
