When Deutsche Bahn has to intervene in nature during the construction or maintenance of its rail infrastructure, so-called compensation obligations arise. To ensure ecological balance, Deutsche Bahn records all relevant data in the web-based "Fachinformationssystem Naturschutz und Kompensation" (FINK). FINK allows the entire process — from planning to implementation and ongoing maintenance of each measure — to be documented. Employees and external planning offices can access the current status of a compensation measure at any time. The system thus simplifies the entire environmental planning process and enables high-quality management of compensation areas.
