For enhanced security when trains are parked in sidings, DB InfraGO has developed a solar-powered, mobile video system. Thanks to its autonomous power supply via solar panels, it can also be deployed in locations where alternative electricity sources are difficult to access. This allows Deutsche Bahn for preventing vandalism and other damage to its trains.
The system can be equipped with up to four cameras fixed on a swiveling mast about seven meters high. The first autonomous mobile base stations have already been installed in Hamm (Westphalia), Leipzig Engelsdorf, Karsdorf, and Mukran on the island of Rügen. At these sites, the systems monitor areas of railway infrastructure that are particularly difficult to oversee, transmitting images to the operations center in Chemnitz. Additional locations are already planned.
