Our BahnCard customers truly help to protect the environment. They automatically travel with 100% renewable power on long distance services within Germany. This lets every BahnCard holder make their journey with Deutsche Bahn that little bit greener. With our eco-powered long distance trains, we are setting the course for achieving our climate targets on time. By 2030, we want to have cut greenhouse gas emissions by more than half. By 2040 we want to be completely climate neutral.
Goodbye plastic card – hello sustainability
Our BahnCard customers not only protect the climate, they also save valuable resources. With the digital BahnCard, we are gradually replacing the plastic version. The BahnCard has been available for smartphones since 2015. Almost two thirds of our travelers already use the digital version. As DB, we are now going one step further. In addition to the trial BahnCard 25/50, we are now converting all BahnCards to a purely digital product by June 2024. As a result, we save over 30 tons of plastic per year together with our customers. That's about as much as ten elephants weigh. Lining up all the saved cards is equivalent to the distance from Frankfurt (Main) to Berlin.
An advantage in terms of environmental protection and convenience – because in our DB Navigator app on the smartphone, the digital BahnCard is always with you wherever you go and can no longer get lost. We can also provide our passengers with even better digital information about changes to their journey and offer alternative connections.
