Even DB's buildings are green

DB places great store by the sustainable construction and modernization of office buildings. Increased attention is being paid to ensuring that office buildings have been certified in line with modern ecological standards. This helps our employees feel comfortable at work and conserves resources at the same time.

Our Silver Tower near Frankfurt's central station is an example of this type of green building. Following refurbishment, it has been awarded the so-called silver-level certification by the German Sustainable Building Council. This requires to meet different sustainability criteria relating to six issues – ecology, economy, sociocultural and function-related aspects, technology, process workflows, and location.

The headquarters of DB Engineering & Consulting in Berlin now bears the LEED platinum seal.

But DB is also making the operation of buildings more sustainable. Since the beginning of 2025, all office buildings, stations, maintenance depots and facilities in Germany that are supplied by DB Energie GmbH have been supplied with 100 percent renewable power. This also includes, for example, signal boxes, point heating systems and track area lighting.

This is another important step on our way to achieving climate neutrality by 2040.
