Windows to cut out noise

We are providing noise reduction for buildings near rail lines – with the help of the German government's voluntary noise abatement program. For example, we are installing sound-insulating windows and wall insulation in apartments to shield residents from railroad noise.

1500 apartments
with sound insulation in 2022

In 2022, we fitted around 1,500 apartments with path and receiver noise control, such as sound-insulating windows. Because it is important to us that people get a good night's sleep.

That is why we, together with the German government, have put people at the center of our 2030/2050 noise reduction targets. By 2030, we aim to reduce noise levels for over 800,000 people living adjacent to tracks. This figure represents over half the total number of people affected currently living near rail routes. By 2050, we will have improved the situation for all residents exposed to railroad noise in this way, which means more than 1.6 million people. Last year, for example, we were able to reduce railroad noise for around 41,500 people. By the end of 2022, around 664,500 residents will have been relieved of railroad noise.
