When Deutsche Bahn must intervene in nature due to construction activities, it creates corresponding ecological compensation. For example, in Brandenburg, during the construction of the railway bridge over the Nuthe, an 'otter berm' was built. This is a walkway under the bridge that allows otters to safely reach the other side of the railway embankment. Without this walkway, otters would have to cross the tracks, which is extremely dangerous for them.
