With modern exhaust aftertreatment using SCR technology (Selective Catalytic Reduction), Deutsche Bahn significantly reduces the pollutant emissions of diesel-powered trains. Nitrogen oxides are almost completely converted into water vapor and harmless “atmospheric nitrogen.” To enable this aftertreatment, the catalyst requires AdBlue®, a urea-based liquid.

DB Energie operates several AdBlue® refueling stations for diesel traction vehicles across Germany.
