Deutsche Bahn is focusing on the careful use of resources. It gives decommissioned laptops, PCs and mobile end user devices a new purpose, thereby extending their life cycle in the long term. DB has a partnership with a specialist company that deletes data on our behalf following best industry practice, then upgrades the appliances so that they can be used again. This gives IT equipment a much longer lifespan and reduces the consumption of natural resources, as the manufacturing process for new appliances not only requires a lot of energy, but also uses valuable raw materials, such as rare earth elements and metals.
In 2024, DB has been able to recycle almost 114,000 devices annually. In addition to notebooks and PCs, this also includes smartphones and tablets.
